Celebrating Excellence: Megan Hughes Leads the Way in Vaccine Advocacy at Unionville Pediatrics

At Unionville Pediatrics, we are incredibly proud to spotlight the exceptional work of our Head Nurse and Office Manager, Megan Hughes, who was recognized by the State of CT Vaccine Program in their August 2025 newsletter. Affectionately known by many as “the queen of the easy vaccine,” Megan brings warmth, leadership, and a deep commitment to public health to everything she does.

A passionate advocate for immunizations, Megan has played a critical role in improving our vaccine coverage rates and streamlining our immunization workflows. She’s been instrumental in implementing tools like CT WiZ and fostering meaningful, respectful conversations that ease concerns and help families stay on track with vaccinations.

With an influx of new families joining our practice, Megan and her team are proactive in reviewing records, identifying gaps, and reaching out to get patients caught up—especially those who may have slipped through the cracks. Her efforts have been especially impactful in increasing HPV vaccination rates by starting conversations earlier, offering thoughtful education, and using a collaborative approach that truly resonates with families.

Megan’s work has not only boosted vaccination rates but also improved data quality, patient trust, and our overall ability to deliver excellent care. Her leadership in the Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers (IQIP) program has helped us stay ahead with smart, strategic outreach.

We are so grateful for Megan’s unwavering dedication to our families and to the greater good of public health. Her compassion, innovation, and determination continue to make Unionville Pediatrics a safer, more supportive place for every child.
